The Man Who Owned a Ghost!

Seems like I do a lot of Bill Everett posts doesn’t it? But you know what? He’s the greatest! Re-reading Mr. Door Tree’s “Zombie!” post the other day only solidifies this fact. And today’s tale with its astonishingly terrifying spectre of evil is further proof of Everett’s genius.

From the March 1952 issue of Astonishing #10

WOW!! THIS HAS BEEN MY FAVORITE EVERETT STORY YOUVE POSTED YET. I LOVE THE WAY HE DRAWS MONSTERS, AND PEOPLES FACES TOO, THEY ALL KIND OF HAVE THAT EARLY SUBMARINER LOOK THAT I LOVE SO MUCH.

I wonder if this evil spirit inspired the $1 Haunting record monster thats in the famous comic book ad. You have it posted on your blog on the right.
Invite your friends over for a haunting!

Thanks so much!this was posted on Scans_Daily by Paul Curtis last year, but in unreadable quality, now i can re-read it all over again!(i sold the Curse of the Weird issue this was in)my friend Jerry swears he saw a mask based off of this,i wouldn't blame the maker for stealing it!.

Yeah, I don't really understand the point of posting an unreadable scan. Or even posting just one single page of a story like 95% of the comic books blogs out there. If you understand your scanner and resolution etc then you can put up an entire story in a READABLE dpi size that doesn't chip away much at all from your free blogger account.

The art in this is terrific, very stylized women and the ghost is really icky. Fun story, too.

Wow, this is a great post! Bill Everett is one of my favorites but I haven't had the opportunity to read much of his golden age stories.

I'm new to this blog but love it already. Looks like I have a lot of stories to hit in the archive! Thanks!
